The best day trip from Cusco
Join us for a once-in-a-lifetime full-day trip to one of the most breathtaking lakes in Cusco! Enjoy the stunning scenery of colorful valleys, snow-capped mountains, and meadows as you travel through the Andes. Along the route to Humantay Lake, take in the breathtaking views of the Humantay and Salkantay peaks!
See the very diverse range of plants and animals that are prospering in these high-altitude settings until you get to the breathtakingly beautiful Humantay Lake. Wait for a unique opportunity to get a glimpse of the enormous, spiritual bird known as the “Condor.”
The Incas regard Humantay and Salkantay, which are part of the Vilcabamba mountain range, as sacred mountain deities. Observe the Humantay glacier melting, which created the blue jewel known as Humantay Lake.
Situated at 4,200 meters (13,780 feet) above sea level, our trip includes a private bus ride and an optional horseback ride for easy access to the lake. Come discover the splendors of Humantay Lake with us! Don’t pass up this incredible opportunity.

The Humantay Lake Tour starts with a pick-up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 a.m. We proceed to drive for nearly 2:30 hours to Mollepata, a small village where we will stop for a tasty local breakfast and also grab last-minute snacks. The drive will then continue until Soraypampa (3,850 m/12,631 ft), the starting point of the walk, where we will feel the full presence of the Salkantay and Huamantay glaciers.
On the way, you will stop at the village of Mollepata after a 2-hour drive to have a testy and warm breakfast in a local restaurant, then you will continue driving with a scenic view of the Andean tipical mountain and deep valley to get to the end of the Soraypamapa. Before the walk, we get ready and use the bathroom. After our tour guide’s brief information and recommendation, we began the 1.5-hour walk up to the gorgeous destination (4,200 m/13,780 ft).
The first 20 minutes of the trail are relatively flat, then the trail starts to ascent up a hill. At this altitude, you will need to take your time walking slower and hydrating. Closing to the top, you will be rewarded by the incredible view; trust us, it’s worth it! Your guide will tell you the history and geographic formation of the lake.
Then you will need to go back to the starting point, where surely the return will be easier for breathing but difficult on the stony terrain, so walking down with sticks and good hiking boots will be the best. It will take us around 1:30 hours back to the transportation and drive all the way to Mollepata village to have a delicious lunch.
Once we are full, we will drive for 3 hours to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel.
