To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, we provide a personalized pre-trek briefing, which takes place at your hotel in Cusco or the Sacred Valley, usually 1–2 days before departure. The meeting time will be coordinated in advance for your convenience.
During this briefing, one of our professional and experienced Inca Trail guides will carefully review the Short Inca Trail itinerary, explain important details about the route, and provide useful packing recommendations and preparation tips for your hike to Machu Picchu. At the same time, you will receive a company duffel bag where you can pack the essential items you will need for the second day of your Short Inca Trail trek. This bag will be transported on the day of your hike and delivered directly to your hotel in Aguas Calientes town.
The maximum allowed weight is 6 kg (13 lb). We recommend not placing fragile or valuable items inside the bag. Thanks to this service, you won’t need to carry a large backpack during the hike—only a small daypack with your personal belongings and the box lunch that will be provided on the day of your Short Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu.

For the Short Inca Trail 2 days to Machu Picchu, we usually book one of the earliest trains of the day from Ollantaytambo train station, typically around 6:10 a.m., depending on availability.
The return journey takes place in the afternoon of the second day, after your guided tour of Machu Picchu. The train services commonly used are Expedition or Voyager.
The recommended departure time from Aguas Calientes train station to Ollantaytambo is usually between 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., depending on seat availability, as the train is the only transportation option connecting Machu Picchu with the Sacred Valley.
From Ollantaytambo, our tourist transport will take you back to Cusco, a drive of approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The total travel time from Aguas Calientes to Cusco is about 4 hours.
