Start the Day with Wildlife Encounters
At 8:00 AM, our adventure begins with a comfortable pickup in a private tourist vehicle. As we head east of Cusco, our first stop is the Llamas Zoo, a sanctuary dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating local wildlife. Here, you’ll meet Peru’s iconic animals, including llamas, alpacas, vicuñas, condors, and even pumas. It’s the perfect introduction to the region’s rich biodiversity and an opportunity to learn about efforts to preserve these incredible creatures.
Continuing along a scenic, winding road, we reach the archaeological site of Pisac, located at 3,350 meters (10,990 feet) above sea level. These impressive Inca ruins are perched on the mountainside, offering panoramic views of the Sacred Valley. Explore the extensive agricultural terraces, ceremonial temples, water channels, and one of the largest Inca cemeteries ever discovered.
After soaking in the history and beauty of Pisac, we’ll head to the nearby Pisac Market, just a short 30-minute drive away. This bustling marketplace is a paradise for shoppers and culture lovers. Browse vibrant stalls filled with handcrafted souvenirs, from colorful textiles and ceramics to traditional jewelry and musical instruments. It’s a must-visit spot to connect with local artisans and take home unique treasures from the Sacred Valley.
Journey Through the Picturesque Urubamba Valley
Our adventure continues as we travel downstream through the scenic Urubamba Valley, dotted with charming towns and colonial-style homes. In the town of Urubamba, we’ll pause for lunch (not included). Here, you’ll savor a delectable meal made with fresh, organic ingredients sourced from the fertile lands of the Sacred Valley. This is the perfect opportunity to experience the rich flavors of Andean cuisine.
Explore the Ancient Wonders of Ollantaytambo
Next, we arrive at Ollantaytambo, a living Inca town situated at 2,700 meters (8,860 feet) above sea level. This stunning archaeological site boasts massive stone terraces, ceremonial fountains, and well-preserved structures that showcase the engineering genius of the Incas. Conclude the Day in Chinchero
On our return to Cusco, we’ll visit the charming village of Chinchero, perched at 3,780 meters (12,400 feet) above sea level. The highlight here is the famous colonial church of Chinchero, built upon the foundations of an ancient Inca palace. Admire the intricate adobe architecture, vibrant frescoes, and seventeenth-century paintings that blend Inca and colonial artistry. This site encapsulates the fascinating fusion of two worlds, leaving you with a profound sense of the region’s cultural depth.
